Question about marker shape offset

Nice to meet you.
Thank you for providing such a wonderful plugin.
I’ve been using it while experimenting with different settings.

I have a question about the marker’s shape offset.
When I enter a value for the marker’s shape offset, the behavior changes compared to when no value is entered.
What settings do I need to use to maintain the original behavior while still entering a value for the offset?

The reason I’m entering a value for the offset is
to adjust the collision settings.

I’ve prepared some sample data, so I’d appreciate it if you could take a look.

Hi @daiti0401, welcome to the forums!

Changing the offset is like changing the translate value of a child to the Marker. It will not affect the rotate pivot of the Marker, but it will affect where collisions happen and how mass is distributed.

Every Marker has a position and shape. The shape dimensions are relative the center of each shape, like the box or in your case the capsule.

If you wanted to move just the end of the capsule, you would combine both length and offset.

But changing the offset would not affect the translate or rotate pivot of the Maya transform, which is where you ultimately record keyframes.

The length and offset for Markers assigned to joints are automatically computed to match the length and rotate pivot of the joint and is typically what you want. Offsetting the shape would not affect the pivot around which they rotate.

You can visualise the rotate pivot of Markers via the “Draw Hierarchy” attribute in the solver.

So, in your example, the reason they appear to separate is because the Markers still rotate around the original joint location, but their “child” shape has been offset to appear above it.

Hello, @marcus,

Thank you for your quick response and detailed explanation!

I wasn’t aware of the “Draw Hierarchy” option,

so I’ll try using it when adjusting the settings.

Is there a page that explains the options for each ragdoll node?

I looked for one but couldn’t find it,

so if there is one, I’d appreciate it if you could let me know.

Great, hope it helps.

There isn’t a reference page with only attributes, your best resource at the moment is the learning page here.

It has a search field you can use to locate particular attributes or concepts.
