Hey Guys
I am sure others must have asked this before.
But I was wondering what’s the best way to setup Tentacles using Ragdoll.
The Tentacles are complete IK and each control has it’s own joint
The tentacle rig was made using Ribbon Nacho script and each tentacle joint is child of the Chest joint individually.
I am including some snaps and a short video to help you guys understand how the rig is currently.
In short, assign to each joint, retarget to relevant control and off you go.
Ragdoll will maintain the distance between each control, as though it was made with physical bones; like our arms and legs. In this case, it looks as though it can stretch arbitrarily at each control; Ragdoll would struggle to maintain this but you can experiment with Translate Motion = Soft
to allow Ragdoll to also affect the translation values between each assigned Marker.
More generally, if you are simulating this, there is less need for a complex IK setup; trust the simulation to perform IK for you, by assigning to an FK hierarchy and steering it IK-style with a Pin Constraint. With a true FK hierarchy you’ll get consistent and easily controlled results each time.
