Managing Self-Collisions

Hi all,

Here are two tips on how you can manage self-collisions on the start frame.

  • 00:00 Overview of the problem
  • 00:41 Draw Contacts
  • 01:18 Fingers and the Overlap Group
  • 03:15 Backback and geometry tweaks
  • 04:50 Achieving perfection

Generally, self-collisions are bad news because they can cause a minor explosion on the start frame and worst case bad behaviour throughout a simulation. For example, if the arm is connected to the torso by a clavicle, then the clavicle can freely overlap both arm and torso, but arm and torso may not.
